Day 29 – Book You’re Currently Reading

30 Day Book Challenge: Book You’re Currently Reading

Book of Job, The Holy Bible

I know, that was probably the last book you expected me to say, wasn’t it?

“Can you discover the depths of God?
Can you discover the limits of the Almighty?
They are high as the heavens, what can you do?
Deeper than Sheol, what can you know?”
Job 11:7-8

  1. I have a deep fondness for the Book of Job, particularly the last three chapters of God speaking. For some reason, many years ago, I suddenly had a compulsion to read the entire thing word-for-word, and I did, and it was long but I felt edified. Then I actually studied it in a Bible study, and that helped even more. It’s a hard book, and the answer Job receives for his suffering isn’t the one we usually want to hear; it is, however, the only one we can rely on. What right have we to question God? None. But we can trust Him for eternity, for He is sufficient. We need nothing if we are only in Him.

  2. I recently found in my possession a rather controversial Christian book about the afterlife, and I managed to get through 1.5 chapters before I had to put it aside and read something more spiritually edifying, which turned out to be Job.
I’m still working through it because it is indeed difficult, but it’s infinitely more thought-provoking.
