Final Thoughts on Part One:

I really enjoy the narrator’s voice. I like how conversational it is, and how the author uses modern allusions to explain archaic practices. I also like all of the moral lessons. I still feel like it was one Merlin-turns-the-Wart-into-an-animal-chapter too many, but I enjoyed them for the most part. I also liked the wonder and innocence of the Wart. I’m excited to see how this plays out.

“If I were to be made a knight,” said the Wart… “I should pray to God to let me encounter all the evil in the world in my own person, so that if I conquered there would be none left, and, if I were defeated, I would be the one to suffer for it…

Why do people not think, when they are grown up, as I do when I am young?”

“Oh dear,” said Merlyn. “You are making me feel confused. Suppose you wait till you are grown up and know the reason?”

“I don’t think that is an answer at all,” replied the Wart, justly.

Chapter 20

Note: The mini-challenge for Day Three was pretty cool, but… I really wanted to finish Part One.

Day Four

“The Queen of Air and Darkness”

Chapters Read: 1-3

Pages Read: 19

Pages Remaining:

“The Queen of Air and Darkness”—99

The Once and Future King—407

Initial Thoughts on Part Two:

  • Gawaine’s story is so sad.
  • Creepy Agravaine is creepy.
  • “Arthur was happy.” That is perhaps the saddest sentence ever.
  • Hooray! Kay is still around!

“And do you know another thing, Arthur? Life is too bitter already, without territories and wars and noble feuds.”

Chapter 3

Mini-Challenge: Fairytale Character Personality Quiz

Results: Tie with Belle and Rapunzel

Belle: An individual who cares not what others think, you are Belle!  You have the ability to see the good in others as well as the ability to learn from your mistakes and move forward.   You believe there is magic all around you, and are quick to extend your compassion and love.

(Actually… I care too much for what others think.)

Rapunzel: You are Rapunzel!  You long for adventure and romance and look forward to expanding your horizons.  Outgoing, cheerful, and willing to try new things, you know how to have fun and how to bring out the best in the people around you.

(Can’t complain there. Plus, I have really long hair.)

Note: Neither GIF nor pictures are mine.
